Astrocartography Planetary Lines: What Each Planet Means
The complete planet-by-planet reference. What your Venus line amplifies, what your Saturn line asks of you, where Jupiter opens, and where Pluto transforms — across every angle of your astrocartography map.

Every planet in your birth chart draws four lines on an astrocartography map: MC (overhead at birth), IC (below the horizon), AC (rising in the east), and DC (setting in the west). Ten planets times four angles equals forty distinct signatures, each a different way the place can activate a different part of you.
This is the reference page. If you want the foundations first — what astrocartography is, who invented it, and how the math works — read What Is Astrocartography? A Complete Guide. Otherwise, jump to any planet below.
A note before you read: the natal condition of the planet shapes the line. An afflicted Venus writes a more complicated Venus line than a well-placed one. An exalted Jupiter writes a larger Jupiter line than a detrimental one. Use these entries as archetypes, not as predictions — and always read a line through the condition of the planet that wrote it.

The Luminaries and Personal Planets
☉Sun LineLuminary · Identity
The Sun is the core of who you are. A Sun line is a place where you are seen, activated, and most authentically yourself — for better or for bigger.
MC:A classic "destiny" line for career and public identity. People see you clearly here; your sense of calling sharpens. Often recommended for relocation when the natal Sun is well-placed. The risk is visibility you were not ready for.
IC:The Sun shines at the root of your life — home, family, or heritage becomes the source of your power. You may feel quieter but more centered; what happens privately fuels what you do publicly elsewhere.
AC:You appear more confident, sunnier, more central. People perceive you as the main character. The danger is ego inflation; the gift is self-possession.
DC:You attract charismatic, central partners — people who are the "Sun" of their own orbits. Partnerships here are defining. Can also attract father figures or authority figures.
☾Moon LineLuminary · Feeling
The Moon is emotional body and belonging. A Moon line is a place of nurturing, inner life, and the feminine — where you feel taken care of, or where you learn to take care.
MC:A vocational Moon line — your career becomes caring, tending, or public-facing emotional work. Common for healers, teachers, and those working with women, children, or the home. Can also mean a public life deeply tied to family identity.
IC:The single most grounding line in astrocartography. Home becomes sanctuary; you feel rooted here at the deepest level. Classic for "this is where I was supposed to live." Often tied to childhood echoes — in good ways and difficult ones.
AC:You become more empathic, intuitive, emotionally visible. People read your feelings on your face. You may feel softer, more permeable. Mother themes and feelings from the past often rise here.
DC:Attracts nurturing partners or brings mother-themes into relationship. Strong line for family formation, pregnancy, or deep domestic partnership.
☿Mercury LinePersonal Planet · Mind
Mercury rules thought, speech, study, and exchange. A Mercury line is a place where the mental atmosphere quickens — you speak better, write more, move faster.
MC:Career becomes verbal: writing, teaching, journalism, sales, translation, tech. Excellent for anyone whose work depends on communication. Your ideas get circulation here.
IC:The home fills with conversation, books, learning. Family dynamics may center on ideas or verbal exchange. Common for writers and scholars who find their best study environments here.
AC:You appear quicker, wittier, more articulate. You think faster on your feet. People come to you for information.
DC:Attracts curious, talkative, intellectually lively partners. Relationships tend to be founded on conversation and shared thought.
♀Venus LineBenefic · Love & Beauty
Venus rules love, aesthetic pleasure, relational ease, and the arts. A Venus line is classically one of the most sought-after lines in astrocartography — a place where life becomes more beautiful.
MC:Amplifies your public relational and aesthetic gifts. People see you as charming; career opportunities arrive through charm, style, partnership, or the arts. Strong line for designers, performers, and anyone in client-facing work.
IC:The home itself becomes beautiful. Domestic life is sweet, artful, pleasure-centered. Strong for settling down, decorating a life, building a partnership rooted in aesthetic shared values.
AC:You appear more beautiful, relational, graceful. People are drawn to you here. Self-care, fashion, and aesthetic self-presentation all intensify. A classic "falling in love" line, though sometimes also a line of vanity.
DC:Attracts Venusian partners — artistic, lovely, refined, or aesthetically oriented. Strong for meeting significant romantic partners. The classic "I met someone on vacation" story often maps to a Venus DC line.
♂Mars LinePersonal Planet · Action
Mars rules energy, drive, courage, and conflict. A Mars line is fuel; the question is always what you are burning it for.
MC:A warrior’s career — direct, competitive, entrepreneurial. Excellent for athletes, surgeons, soldiers, activists, builders. The tension: your public life may involve conflict or controversy.
IC:Can bring domestic friction or the passion to defend a home project. Also strong for intensive home renovation, physical training, or building a family around shared struggle. Avoid if household stability is fragile.
AC:You become more physical, direct, bolder. Body strengthens. You speak more assertively and are perceived as more forceful. The risk is picking fights that were not yours.
DC:Attracts Martian partners — athletic, driven, sometimes confrontational. Relationships may have heat, passion, and occasional combat. Also strong for meeting collaborators in competitive fields.

The Social Planets
♃Jupiter LineGreat Benefic · Expansion
Jupiter is the classical great benefic — expansion, opportunity, philosophy, generosity. A Jupiter line is a place that wants to give you more.
MC:Among the most favorable lines for career in the entire map. Public opportunity, reputation, and expansion. Travel, teaching, publishing, law, higher education, international business all flourish. Many astrologers recommend visiting even if relocation is impractical.
IC:Home becomes generous, spacious, philosophical. Family life gains depth and meaning. Strong for settling into a tradition — religious, intellectual, or cultural — that holds the domestic sphere.
AC:You appear larger, more optimistic, more confident. You take up more room. People perceive you as wise, well-traveled, or lucky. The shadow is overconfidence or excess — Jupiter inflates whatever it touches.
DC:Attracts mentors, teachers, and foreign partners. Relationships open worlds. Common for meeting someone from a different culture, tradition, or intellectual world who opens you up.
♄Saturn LineGreat Malefic · Structure
Saturn is discipline, maturity, earned mastery, and time. Saturn lines are often called difficult — but they are not to be avoided. They are the places that build lasting structures, at the cost of asking you to grow up.
MC:A serious career line. Authority, recognition, and public stature are possible, but through long apprenticeship rather than quick wins. Classic for people who become respected experts in their field. The weight is real.
IC:Home or family becomes the site of serious work — responsibility, inheritance, caregiving, or long-term building. Can surface old father themes or family obligation. Grounding if you are ready for it; heavy if you are not.
AC:You feel older, more formal, more tested. People perceive you as serious, authoritative, or reserved. The self becomes more structured; the identity is refined by responsibility. A line of maturity.
DC:Partnerships with elders, teachers, or authority figures. Committed, serious, sometimes burdensome relationships. Strong for meeting a life partner if you are ready for structure — not ideal for dating.

The Outer Planets
♅Uranus LineOuter Planet · Liberation
Uranus is the lightning bolt — sudden change, freedom, innovation, rebellion. A Uranus line is a place of disruption in the service of becoming more yourself.
MC:Sudden career breakthroughs or breaks. Innovation, tech, alternative fields, activism, anything unconventional. Can also mean abrupt public reversals — Uranus rarely arrives on schedule.
IC:Home life is shaken up in the name of freedom. Can mean moving suddenly, unconventional living arrangements, or breaking with family patterns. Not a line of stability.
AC:You become unexpectedly yourself. Identity shifts, often dramatically. People perceive you as unusual, original, electric. The liberation is real; the price is continuity.
DC:Attracts unconventional partners — artists, rebels, foreigners, people you would not have imagined. Relationships here are exciting and often volatile; divorce and sudden endings are overrepresented on Uranus DC lines.
♆Neptune LineOuter Planet · Dissolution
Neptune dissolves boundaries. It rules art, music, mysticism, compassion, and also illusion, escapism, and addiction. A Neptune line is beautiful and porous.
MC:Creative, healing, or mystical career. Strong for artists, musicians, healers, and those in service professions. The shadow is professional ambiguity — blurred roles, unclear compensation, being "seen through" rather than seen.
IC:Home is dreamy, sometimes rootless. Can be deeply inspiring or destabilizing depending on natal Neptune. Water views, artistic domestic spaces, or spiritual retreat are common. The risk is feeling ungrounded.
AC:You become more empathic, intuitive, and permeable. You may lose clear self-boundaries and absorb the energies of people around you. Strong for creative breakthroughs; tricky for clear decision-making.
DC:Attracts soulful, artistic, or elusive partners. Relationships may feel fated or mystical but can also involve confusion, idealization, or deception. Discernment is essential.
♇Pluto LineOuter Planet · Transformation
Pluto is death and rebirth at the root. A Pluto line is rarely gentle, but it is rarely wasted — places here tend to permanently reorganize your life.
MC:Career involving power, crisis, depth, or healing. Therapists, investigators, researchers, transformation workers. Can also mean transformative public events — sudden rises and falls. Public identity is remade here.
IC:Home and family dynamics are dissolved and rebuilt. Can bring up ancestral trauma, inheritance, or generational patterns. Profound if you are willing to do the work; otherwise difficult.
AC:The most transformational AC line. People emerge from Pluto AC cities unrecognizable to who they were when they arrived. Identity is stripped and remade. Intense physical and psychological shifts are common.
DC:Attracts intense, fated, sometimes obsessive relationships. Deep bonds — and deep power struggles. Strong for soul-level partnership if both people are ready to transform each other.

Reading Crossings (Parans)
When two lines cross at a single point on the map, you have a paran — both planets simultaneously angular at that location. Parans are the loudest points on an astrocartography map, because the combined signature is not merely additive but chord-like.
A few classic crossing meanings:
Venus × Jupiter — the "great benefic paran." Places of deep flourishing, love, creative opportunity, and luck. Rare and sought-after.
Sun × Jupiter — public destiny and expansion fused. Often marks a city where a major life chapter begins.
Saturn × Mars — initiation through struggle. Not a gentle crossing, but a building one for those ready for discipline under pressure.
Venus × Mars — passionate, often romantic. Strong for meeting partners or creative collaborators.
Moon × Neptune — emotionally dissolving. Mystical, inspiring, sometimes destabilizing.
Pluto × Sun — total identity transformation. Rare but life-reorganizing.
"A line amplifies one planet. A crossing amplifies two. Stand where the crossing falls and you stand in the combined signature."
How to Use This Reference
Look up the lines passing through places you already live or love, not the places the map tells you to go. An astrocartography map is informative; it is not a directive. Most people find that the planet activated in their current city corresponds to the chapter they are actually living — the map confirms rather than predicts.
When planning travel or relocation, use this reference to preview the atmosphere of the candidate city rather than to choose one. Then cross-reference with your natal chart: a Jupiter MC line means more if your natal Jupiter is well-aspected than if it is square Saturn. Always weigh the natal planet’s condition.
