Phase is how much of the disk is illuminated — new (0%), first quarter (50% waxing), full (100%), last quarter (50% waning). Phase cycles every 29.5 days.
Sign is the zodiac slice the Moon currently occupies. The Moon moves through one sign every 2.3 days, completing the zodiac in 27.3 days. Two different rhythms in one body.
How to read tonight's moon
Look up. If you can see the Moon, its phase is whatever you see. The shape of the lit portion tells you where you are in the cycle: a thin crescent on the right means waxing toward full, a thin crescent on the left means waning toward new.
The sign — invisible to the naked eye — colors the day's emotional weather.
What to do at full moon
Full moons are culmination points. What was seeded at the previous new moon (about 14 days earlier) reaches visibility now. Things that were hidden surface; tensions that were building peak.
