Every symbol we draw, and what each one means
Squaring the circle was proved impossible in 1882. The alchemists had been drawing it for four hundred years by then, and they were not trying to solve it. This is the whole set: sacred geometry, alchemy, the astrology of an actual chart, the Chinese systems and the marks people still wear for protection, each one drawn by hand and explained in a paragraph.

Questions people actually ask
What is sacred geometry?
Sacred geometry is the study of the small set of figures that keep reappearing across unrelated traditions, because they fall out of simple construction rules rather than out of belief. Draw a circle, then a second circle through its centre, and the vesica piscis, the equilateral triangle and the square root of three all follow whether you intended them or not. The Flower of Life, Metatron’s Cube and the five Platonic solids are all downstream of that one move.
What is the oldest symbol in this library?
The ouroboros has the oldest securely dated appearance: it is carved on a gilded shrine in Tutankhamun’s tomb, around 1323 BC. The Lo Shu magic square and the eight trigrams are of comparable age in China, though their earliest surviving physical examples come later.
Do these symbols mean the same thing in every tradition?
No, and the differences matter. The pentagram was a Pythagorean recognition token long before it carried any elemental reading. The triquetra predates its Christian interpretation by centuries. Where a symbol has been read more than one way, this library gives the earliest attested use rather than the most popular modern one.
Which of these actually appear in a birth chart?
The zodiac wheel, the twelve houses, the four elements, the aspect patterns and the lunar nodes are all literally present in a chart. The seven planetary metals and the Kabbalistic Tree of Life map onto one. The rest are structural rather than astrological, though several, the Great Year in particular, explain why charts are drawn the way they are. You can cast a free chart and find most of them in it.
