The foundation frequency.
The ground beneath the ground. The safety of being held.
174 Hz is the lowest of the nine solfeggio tones and the foundation of the modern sound-healing canon. Tradition associates it with the Earth Star chakra (a transpersonal centre beneath the feet), with pain relief, and with a sense of being safely anchored in the body. In Cosmos Daily's resolution, 174 Hz belongs to the Earth element (Bazi) and the Malkuth or Binah sephirah (Tree of Life).
Where 174 came from.
174 Hz entered the solfeggio canon as one of three frequencies added later to Joseph Puleo's original six. Where 396, 417, 528, 639, 741, and 852 emerged from Puleo's 1974 numerological reading of the Latin hymn Ut queant laxis, 174 was appended in subsequent decades by sound-healing practitioners who found the existing range too narrow. The number itself is not derived from any historical chant; it sits below the medieval hexachord entirely. Its addition was a curatorial choice, not a recovery.
What tradition claims.
In the modern correspondence map, 174 Hz is the lowest, most physically grounded tone. Practitioners assign it to the Earth Star chakra — a transpersonal energy centre said to sit below the feet, connecting the body to the Earth itself. The traditional claims attached to it are pain relief, foundational safety, and a sense of being held — the felt experience of having ground beneath you. None of these claims have peer-reviewed support, but the framing is internally coherent: the lowest tone for the most embodied chakra.
What peer review says.
Cosmos Daily's stance throughout the site is that traditional correspondences are tradition, not medicine. 174 Hz is beautiful, traditionally meaningful, and useful as a focal point for intentional listening. It is not a treatment. We label it as we find it.
174 Hz in Your Aura
On Cosmos Daily, 174 Hz appears in your aura under two conditions. First: if your Bazi day-master element is Earth (anyone born on a Wu or Ji stem day in the Chinese sexagenary calendar), 174 Hz is your secondary tone. Second: if your Tree-of-Life ruling sephirah is Malkuth or Binah — both of which we map to 174 Hz in our resolver — it appears as your tertiary. Earth day-master + Malkuth/Binah year would produce a collision that the resolver backfills from the nine-tone pool.
How to listen. At 174 Hz you are listening to a low, sustained tone — close to F3 on a piano, an octave below middle C and well within the comfortable bass range of most speakers. The tone sounds grounded, almost cellar-like; some listeners describe it as a felt vibration as much as a heard pitch. Eight to fifteen minutes of intentional listening, at quiet volume, is the standard meditation protocol.
