396Hz

The liberation frequency.

The cleansing of fear from the root. Release that opens forward.

In Brief

396 Hz is the first of Joseph Puleo's original six solfeggio tones, corresponding to the "Ut" syllable of the medieval hexachord — the predecessor to the modern "Do." Tradition associates it with the root chakra, liberation from fear, and the release of guilt or grief from the body. In Cosmos Daily's resolution, 396 Hz maps to the Gevurah sephirah on the Tree of Life — the sphere of severity, judgement, and necessary discipline.

Where 396 came from.

396 Hz was the first frequency Joseph Puleo derived in 1974 through his Pythagorean reduction of the Latin hymn Ut queant laxis. The "Ut" syllable became "Do" in later solfege, but in Puleo's framework it kept its medieval name and was assigned this specific Hz value. The number itself does not correspond to any documented historical chant pitch — medieval chant was sung at a much lower reference tuning, with "Ut" probably falling around 220–250 Hz depending on the choir.

What tradition claims.

In the modern correspondence map, 396 Hz is the root-chakra frequency — the chakra of survival, security, and embodied presence. The traditional claim is that the tone liberates fear, dissolves guilt, and clears emotional debris from the base of the spine. Some practitioners pair 396 Hz with grounding meditations, breath-work into the lower body, or movement practices intended to discharge stuck emotion. The framing is internally coherent within the chakra-correspondence tradition.

What peer review says.

Emotional release claims
No peer-reviewed evidence supports a specific physiological effect of 396 Hz on fear, guilt, or stored emotion. The subjective experience of release during slow tonal listening is real and well-documented, but it is not specific to 396 Hz — it occurs at any sustained low frequency with deliberate attention. The tradition's claims are symbolic, not biochemical.

Cosmos Daily's stance throughout the site is that traditional correspondences are tradition, not medicine. 396 Hz is beautiful, traditionally meaningful, and useful as a focal point for intentional listening. It is not a treatment. We label it as we find it.

396 Hz in Your Aura

396 Hz appears in your aura when your Tree-of-Life ruling sephirah is Gevurah — the sphere of severity, justice, and necessary boundary-setting. In Cosmos Daily's resolver, this happens when your Bazi year-stem element resolves to Fire-yin or, in some configurations, when other chart inputs push your sephirah assignment toward Gevurah's frequency. The pairing is interpretively apt: Gevurah's job is to clear what does not serve, and 396 Hz's tradition is precisely about that release.

How to listen. 396 Hz sits close to G4, in the warm-mid range that feels neither cellar-low nor sharp. Most listeners find it the easiest solfeggio tone to listen to for extended periods. The standard meditation protocol applies; many practitioners pair it with a body-scan or breath-into-the-pelvis practice.
