What is Chesed?

Chesed — Mercy — is the Sephirah of expansion and abundance. It is the principle of grace that gives without demanding return, the open hand of cosmic generosity. Chesed sits below Chokmah on the Pillar of Mercy and represents the moment when creative will (Chokmah) expands into a sustained outpouring of benevolence. The Hebrew word *chesed* is sometimes translated as "loving-kindness" — a love that flows freely because the source is inexhaustible.

Chesed in Your Birth Chart

Chesed-strong charts are generous, expansive, often visibly fortunate. People with prominent Chesed placements become benefactors, mentors, the ones others come to in trouble. The shadow is over-extension — the giving that depletes the giver, the mercy that excuses what should be confronted.
