What is Chokmah?
Chokmah — Wisdom — is the first Sephirah of differentiation. If Kether is undifferentiated unity, Chokmah is the lightning-flash of creative will that breaks unity into two. It is the masculine principle on the Tree, the active force that initiates without yet shaping. Chokmah is the urge before the form, the *fiat* before the world. It sits at the top of the Pillar of Mercy, opposite Binah on the Pillar of Severity, and the tension between them is the tension between will and form, expansion and limit.
